Chasing Sunsets & Stretching Days: Why Spring Light is a Dream for Photos
by Poem Photography
Ah, spring in the UK — that sweet, fleeting time when the sun reappears (finally) and the evenings start stretching their legs again. As a family and wedding photographer, this season is my absolute favourite for getting outside with my camera and capturing real, unposed, joy-filled moments.
The Light That Started It All
I’ll be honest — I have a full-blown obsession with golden hour light. That soft, glowy, golden light you get just before sunset? It makes everything look like a scene from a dreamy film. It’s flattering, warm, and full of magic. If you'd been at Iona & Scott's wedding at Easter weekend, you'd have found me commando crawling in a field on my belly to get those gorgeous backlit sunburst couple shots.
Whether I’m at a wedding or out in the woods with a muddy-kneed toddler and a giggling family, golden hour has a way of turning even the most ordinary moment into something unforgettable.
Why Spring & Summer Are So Special
The longer days mean more time to play with light — and that opens up so many beautiful opportunities. In spring, there’s a buzz in the air. Families are out again, couples are planning weddings, and everything feels full of possibility. It’s also the season where I really get to play and make the most of my natural, candid style. Kids running wild, couples caught in those little in-between moments — that’s where the real magic happens.
Introducing: Golden Hour Family Sessions ✨
My obsession with golden hour has led to something exciting...
This August and September, I’m running exclusive golden hour family sessions. These are short and sweet storytelling sessions, held right at sunset when the light is soft and glowy — but crucially, when the sun sets at a sensible time for families (read: no overtired bedtime meltdowns).
There are only 4 sessions available, and they’re now live to book via my bookings page. If you've ever wanted those golden, sun-soaked beautiful images of your family just being yourselves — cuddling, laughing, chasing each other across a meadow — this is your chance.
Poem Photography is only four months old, but already I’ve had the absolute joy of capturing so many meaningful moments for brilliant people. These golden hour sessions are something a little extra special — and I’d love for you to be part of them.
